2009 Hoboken Int’l Film Festival

5/14/2009:

Do any of you look forward to the Hoboken International Film Festival?

Runs from May 30th through June 4th this year.

Now the “2009 Bi-City Film Screening”

No offense to the festival organizers or film makers displaying their quality works – and you can call me crazy – because I’m having a tough time “getting” this event. This year, the week long festival is being held primarily at Cedar Lane Cinemas in Teaneck, NJ – with daily 8:30pm screenings at Pier A Park in Hoboken.

I suppose what throws me for a loop – is their website. I get the shakes navigating and reading it.

Anyway – I snagged the important item from the site: The 2009 Schedule.

For those that go, hope you enjoy it!

Last year the city gave this guy somewhere between thousands of dollars to hold the festival in Hoboken. Oh and he made a profit. I guess Judi wasn’t swayed this year.
Thank God!

How many of the films are directed by the festival’s organizer this year?

Did the Festival have a falling out with Stevens? Most of the indoor events were conducted in the Babbio Center and DeBaun auditorium.

actually i would point out that this was a dave roberts idea, and like ALL dave roberts ideas it is a bad one. it should be killed immediately. boycott, ignore, protest….whatever makes you happy, but i hope that not a single PENNY of my taxes are going for this stupid event. now that roberts has been pushed out can we go aroound town and tear his name/image off everything in this town?
as for the theater, it is as necessary as the light rail and will only bring more problems.

I’ve refused to support Symposia Books as long as they have that Roberts sign in the window. I’m sure it’s a good store but the fact that they pumped up his ego even more turns me off–and I don’t care that he probably doesn’t charge them rent to stay there. The big question now is what happens to the store when Roberts is gone and doesn’t have to pretend he cares about things like books anymore?

If this doesn’t magnify the need for a movie theater in Hoboken, I don’t know what does. How exactly can the “Hoboken Film Festival” take place in Teaneck? Whoever wins this mayoral race, get that theater opened already!
