Readerpix: Mystery Truck

5/6/2009:

Hoboken411 reader Todd sent in this picture of what appears to be a city vehicle constantly parked on streets meant for residents. (I swear there was a previous post about this at some point – but cannot locate it!)

Hoboken411 reader photo of the day – 5/6/2009

“Parked on the corner of 12th and Clinton there is what resembles a moving truck that hasn’t moved in like 2 months. Occasionally it disappears for a few days but it always returns to the same spot. I’ve checked all over the thing but I can’t for the life of me find a parking sticker. I don’t even see a parking ticket on the windshield!! Since when did Hoboken allow over sized trucks to park legally in town within the green, resident only parking spots??

PS, I went back and checked it again this morning and it does have municipal plates, but still… Why is that truck allowed to park there? And those plates are the old sky blue NJ plates too!”

[Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Readerpix entry! – Note: one reader’s photo(s) will be featured each day at approximately 11am. Unless your photo is time-sensitive – it will be published in the order it was received! Additional note: Your pictures will have a better chance of being published if they’re in “landscape” mode, as opposed to the taller “portrait” modes… ]

Thank you, HobokenHistory for a great post. The only thing I disagree with you about is the “temporary” classrooms. Those things have been there for years.

The mystery truck belongs to the Hoboken Board of Education to deliver food to the schools everyday. MG (Municipal Government) plates do not need a Hoboken parking sticker. Blue plates are still valid if the registration is current. It is normally parked in the school parking lot but can’t because the lot is currently filled with temporary classrooms.

That truck enjoys Hero status, on 9/11 and 9/12 the “Mystery Truck” delivered 17 loads of donated clothing, food and supplies to New York. The highlight was two tons of ice cubes donated by Hoboken restaurants delivered right to Ground Zero for the overheated rescue workers.

Ole’ Betsy may not look pretty, but she’s there when you need her.

I remember when they went around asking everyone for donations of clothing and towels that night… I wonder if my towels were on that truck.

Your towels and clothing went to the 150 “guests” we housed overnight at the Wallace School gym on the evening of 9/11.

The “guests” were people who worked in New York and could not get home. They were all very greatful for the hospitality Hoboken’s residents showed them.

Is it blocking the intersection? It doesn’t look like it, but I can’t really tell from the picture.

“they’re”…it is a contraction of “they” and “are”.
your use of the word “there” is incorrect.
