Before waterfront development in Hoboken
[Reminiscing Hoboken411’s Five Year Anniversary…]
Then and Now: Downtown Hoboken Waterfront
Many newcomers don’t remember that the downtown waterfront area in Hoboken used to be a barren wasteland! I remember River Street like that!
Take a look at this awesome shot – I think the shot was from the 90’s… My! You almost don’t recognize it!
Well, we have:
- 333 River (and the associated businesses, bars)
- W Hotel
- J. Wiley Building (and businesses)
- Pier A Park
We often take for granted how Hoboken has improved over the past 20 years. However, I wish better urban planners were involved – as our infrastructure, parking and traffic really blow now.
This is the closest shot I could find… If I tried taking a duplicate shot from the Marine View Plaza – it’d be all blocked by buildings anyway!
