NY Waterway: No need for alarm
Tomorrow morning from 6-11am, there will be visibly increased security at various NY Waterway Ferry terminals – no need to worry!
VIPR operation – sounds cool!
“On Thursday, April 9, 2009 the Transportation Security Administration’s Office of Law Enforcement (FAMS) will be conducting a joint Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) Operation at the following NY Waterway facilities: Port Imperial/Weehawken, 14th Street/Hoboken, and Paulus Hook/Jersey City.
The VIPR Operation will consist of men and women from the Federal Air Marshal Service, the New Jersey State Police, and the United States Coast Guard.
Officers and Agents will be both in uniform and in plain-clothes. There is no credible evidence of a threat against any of the three (3) facilities. This is purely an added security measure for the day.
Officers and Agents will engage the public and employees of the reason for their presence and constantly state that there is no threat to the facility or ferry system. The goal of this operation is to provide a visible deterrent. Officers and Agents will be in and around the terminals as well as on the ferries. The hours of the operation will be approximately 0600 – 1100 (AM).”
