YouTube tech tip

4/2/2009:

Here’s a quick tech tip for those that enjoy watching embedded YouTube videos on sites such as Hoboken411 and so on.

How to make videos play HQ all the time

youtube-logo.gifAs most of you have already noticed, YouTube finally got on the bandwagon of providing higher quality video clips. You’ll notice an “HQ” button on the lower left side of the video box. It’s great to have – but can be annoying to have to manually click each time in order to see the better version of the video.

How do you fix that? Well – it’s simple – just make sure you’re logged into your YouTube account – Go to Account Settings – select Playback Setup – and choose the third option under Video Playback Quality: “I have a fast connection. Always Play higher-quality video when it’s available.” The key operative there is “when available,” because not all clips are (such as today’s earlier comedy clip.)

The setting is just another way to make your online life a smidge easier.

I meant set it so that your video defaults to HD for everyone that views it.

Too bad it can’t default to HD for viwers, like if you have Vimeo Pro.
