What else can that slide be?

3/16/2009:

They’ve built what is obviously a children’s slide over at Pier C Park, which is currently still under construction.

However, a Hoboken411 reader emailed me last Friday night, and it seems this object came up in discussion – while enjoying some (many) cocktails with friends.

What is that slide-thing they built?

“We’ve just been having a discussion about the new pier down by the soccer field. I’m sure you’ve seen that big slide-like thing that they built. We have 6 people here. 2-3 say it is, in fact, a fantastic slide that we all want to utilize when it opens. One person says it is a garbage shoot. Apparently, they walk the garbage up two stories and drop it down the slide because it… looks cool? One said it is some sort of air duct that’s built before some building that would need it. Maybe the object filters that sweet Hudson River air, so if you stand under it and breathe it in, you get some sort of natural high? The other one is apparently too afraid to answer what they think it is. Can you some how settle this? I’m thinking a poll or something?”

Sorry. No one bit on your incredibly lame attempt at humor. Go find another 70’s joke book and try some on the bums down at the shelter.

It doesn’t matter what it is, because within a year it will be falling into the Hudson just like the rest of our fabulous waterfront.

It has the makings of a giant potato or melon gun, or one of those pumpkin chunkers.
