More empty storefronts this year?

Yesterday, Yahoo Finance had a story about 15 businesses that could fail in 2009.

Included in that list, were several area businesses:

 • Rite Aid (2 Hoboken locations): “Prognosis: Mounting losses, with no turnaround in sight.”
 • Blockbuster: “A key test of Blockbuster’s viability will come when two credit lines expire in August.”
 • Landry’s Restaurants (The Chart House in Weehawken, a well as the Crab House in Edgewater): “..needs $400 million in new financing to finalize a buyout deal dating to last June.”
 • Trump Casinos (for the gamblers here in Hoboken):“Trump Entertainment may face long odds of skirting bankruptcy.”

Others notable in the tri-state area and beyond included Krispy Kreme, Six-Flags, Chrysler, Sirius Radio and more.

For those that believe the economy is getting worse – economic stimulus or not – which businesses or business sectors have the worst outlook in the next year?

He always said that bringing liquor from one establishment that has closed down to another one that is still open is illegal. It happens but it’s supposedly illegal.
ok, i get that….so for example the owner of the ted & jo’s liq lic can’t do anything with it EXCEPT at the old location…so it’s worthless?
it’s worth remodeling if you have a liquor license. why would you do nothing with it?
i think we need a whole thread on liquor licenses

if i get this all straight, the owner of the ted & jo’s BUILDING can’t open a bar there because he can’t get a liquor license…and the old owner of the BAR can’t use his old license UNLESS he uses it at the old location of T&J??? OR he can take his license to one of the “doomed” locales on washington st and start a bar as long as they don’t already have a running bar/rest in existance?!?!?!?! hence Bin14 CAN’T take the liquor license to Anthony Davids…right?

all this bar talk is making me thirsty

I believe, from reading about the Clam Broth House fiasco, there are two types of Liquor Licenses. Pocket Licenses that can be brought to other locations, and Location Licenses that can only be used on one property.

Actually, there’s always been a baby section within Toys R Us. Over the years they noticed it’s one of the fastest growing department so they branched out to a separate store called Babies R Us. It’s call growing your business. As long as the market demands it, it will support itself
