Street cleaning suspended on MLK Day

1/18/2009:

Concerned that you might need to move your car tomorrow?

Fear not, Hoboken street cleaning has been suspended in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

But that doesn’t mean you should park illegally, and all that other stuff.

I actually called the HPU on Friday to ask about street cleaning, meter and resident parking rules for today, and was told all were suspended.

Of course, all of the meter signs don’t list MLK day as a day when meters are suspended… I suppose I have to trust HPU since they would know which days they aren’t going to show up for work, right?

JohnnyB, are you new around here?

MLKjr. Day is a national holiday. People are off. 🙄

Just a head’s up for you JohnnyB…parking regulations will be suspended for President’s Day also. Now you don’t have to be surprised.
Actually, you must be the one that’s new around here. Hoboken doesn’t always celebrate Federal and State holidays on the actual day of the holidays. Case in point: Veterans Day 2008.

The holiday was a Thursday, the state of NJ and the U.S. Federal Government observed it on a Thursday. Hoboken on the other hand gave out street sweeping tickets. When I called to complain they told me they decided to observe it on the previous Monday instead.

Veterans Day was observed and was on that Thursday everywhere except for Hoboken.
The Hoboken City workers union has also asked for Tuesday off as well since the city workers usually do not do much work on Mondays – it is only fair that they have off on Tuesday as well.
You mean along with the Friday they didn’t show? lmao

I agree strand. I think 411 is doing a great service in printing this info.

I think Veteran’s Day debacle had something to do with Veteran’s Day (observed) and the actual Veteran’s Day itself.
