Deadly Weehawken Yacht fire

12/9/2008:

One might be suspicious of certain fires in and around Hudson County, but a fire on a boat tends to be even more suspicious. Today’s fire at the Lincoln Harbor Marina got lots of attention from local TV news outlets (probably because it was conveniently blazing away across the river).

Plumes of black smoke

weehawken-yacht-fire.jpgThe U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that a body was recovered from aboard a boat that caught fire this morning in the Lincoln Harbor Marina.

The fire broke out at around 7 a.m.

Massive flames and giant plumes of smoke could be seen from high above as SkyFoxHD was the first on the scene.

Authorities were initially worried about a New York City doctor who lives on one of the boats, but Fulcher says the doctor was at work when the fire started and is fine.

Motorists heading to the Lincoln Tunnel and people in offices along Manhattan’s West Side are seeing thick, black smoke billowing from the scene.

The identity of the victim that perished is unknown at this time, or whether foul play was involved.

I believe lateer news reports stated that no one died in this fire and that the cause of the fire was unknown at this time.

That’s always a good question.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. There are reports that a body was found on one of the boats.
