Reader Mail: Misleading Maps

11/26/2008:

Back in August, I had a post about the Upper Grand website – and how their “map” of Hoboken – and the location of the property they’re promoting was vastly inaccurate, making it appear as if the buildings were a stone’s throw away from the Hudson River.

Today – a Hoboken411 reader expresses a similar opinion about the Garden Street Lofts building.

(Yet another) misleading developer map

garden-street-lofts-map-sm.gif“Hope you are enjoying the cold weather. I know we had a discussion on 411 about the misleading map which showed ‘Upper Grand’s’ 800 Madison as a few blocks from the river. I found another misleading example on gardenstreetlofts.com.

If you go there, go to Neighborhood –> Map, it shows the ‘northern half’ of Hoboken, showing an icon for the Path station at… 7th and Hudson! To their credit they have a small arrow indicating that it’s further down that this, but anyone who hasn’t been to Hoboken or been there only a few times would totally fall for this. Desperate? I think so!

Yea and on this note if you hurry you can take advantage of their limited time preconstruction prices!

Keep up the good work!”

Amen. When you make an investment like that, if you don’t investigate everything, you suck.
I used to have a mile and a half commute every day to the PATH station and it was great. 3 miles of built-in walking exercise every day. Now I am 4 blocks from the PATH and have had to cut out my morning muffin to compensate. 8)
Ha! cut the muffin so your middle section doesn’t look like one. I hear you.

This obviously bought a condo, having never been to Hoboken and solely based on this map alone!!
