Ice season is winding down

Shereef from Rita’s Ice (121 Washington St.) wanted to share with everyone that they’ll be closing up shop on November 15, 2008less than 30 days away!

One of the late season specials will be the giant buckets of ices – so that people can stock up and store vast amounts of the icy goodness in their freezer.

They’ll be opening back up on March 9, 2009!

Form[quote comment=”112667″]Shereef and Laila… are they from overseas? A lot of Middle Easterners I meet at work will be in their store 24/7 (sleeping on little more than flattened cardboard boxes in a storage loft) and then go home for complete R&R for a couple of months. When they own bodegas, which have to stay open, the store tends to go downhill as the interim “manager” will pocket the money intended for the exterminator, the part-time sweep-up boy, and sometimes even for Con Edison. In many cases, it would be better for them if they could close for a few months.

Former NY Gov. Mario Cuomo’s parents owned a grocery store.
When they had a family wedding, they used to close the store for a few hours and come back to work.

It’s probably a good thing that my freezer isn’t big enough for a tub of their stuff, which is delicious. I hope they enjoy their well-earned time off!

how do these guys make a profit paying rent for a closed store 4 months out of the year? I wonder if they would really do terribly being open those 4 months. I’d sure stop in a few times!
