Dreadful intersection on Harrison

10/14/2008:

In today’s Hoboken411 reader mail bag – we have a resident – who after seeing the entry about the never-ending red traffic light near the SkyClub – wanted to add another annoying (and scary) intersection nearby:

Worthy of a complaint

“Has anyone else complained about traffic congestion during rush hour at 50 Harrison St?

It’s also nearly impossible to make a left onto Paterson Ave. from Harrison without risking your life.

We need some sort of “Do not block the box” sign or maybe a traffic signal? Oy.”

“And most of Hoboken had areas that “weren’t there” years ago.”

Not really true, there are a handful of new roads and these new roads are running along new development. We now change the name of streets here to make matters worse, River Road is now Sinatra Drive, why I dont know Sinatra never looked back at hoboken once he left, he even moved his parents out. Oh I’m sorry he came once I think 1985 to St.Anns.
I understood your point, but this has been, and most likely will remain an unsafe intersection. Most drivers are in a rush and are cutting throught this area to either get to the turnpike, 1-9 or the tunnel with no regards to anyone in their way. Now they can put an officer to direct traffic but this usually makes it worse. A few years back my son was in Hudson Catholic ( JC) and this was the only way out since Observer was continously backed up, and I understand the frustration of getting from point A to B in this 1 mile town, its crazy. There is no traffic control in Hoboken and our streets are unsafe, and unfortuanlly you will most likely see more accidents in future.
Be carful and just look both ways. This goes for all of our streets. 😀

what do you expect when the county owns the road? As far as the county knows the congestion has nothing to do with the Heights coming down into Hoboken to go to the Turnpike. That is only because they do not want to look at it.

Maybe our newly elected Free holders Anthony Romano will take this on as a project to get it fixed…….boy i almost typed this sentence without laughing.
Not for anything but did you not notice this intersection prior to moving in? Thats why for years there was nothing there. This was simply a way in and out of Hoboken(backroads) never was it a high residential area as it is now.
You can build build build but the streets will stay the same, except with a heavier flow of traffic making more them unsafe as to 3 years ago.. It was bad then too just not as noticable
Um yes, I did notice the incredibly busy street I lived on before I moved there. I would have to be a blind retard to not notice the noise and traffic on that road.
I wasn’t complaining about the area or anything. I was just trying to agree that it is a shitty intersection and how many accidents I have seen.
And most of Hoboken had areas that “weren’t there” years ago. That does not justify the unsafe conditions that exist on this intersection.
