Today’s traffic mishap

8/19/2008 Afternoon Update:

As of noon today, the signal is still broken, and 14th Street eastbound from Willow is closed.

Workers on the scene said that the incident actually happened at 5am, but they were notified two hours later at 7am. “We could have been done by now if they had only called us when it happened…”

When asked how long it typically takes to repair damage such as this, I got the “all-in-one” response: “It depends.. could take an hour or two, 25 minutes, all-day or possibly an all-nighter…”

Fair enough.

8/19/2008:

From the fatal accident on the viaduct, to manhole covers popping off during every rain storm, 14th and Willow is certainly becoming a hot-spot for driving nightmares!

Today, a tractor trailer took down the traffic signal on the southeast corner of the intersection. Luckily it happened at 6am, and didn’t cripple the rush-hour commute.

Thanks, Keith for the pics!

That driver must have been tired to make a mistake like that. It’s very nerve racking driving the big trucks through these towns. Especially if your looking for a location, and you’ve never been there before. 😳

oww – he picked the pole with the controller on it (that grey box)- that means it might be more to repair for the HC-DPW

The cops still weren’t allowing traffic to turn onto 14th at 7:30 this morning, inclusive of the 126 buses.
