Batman goes green!

8/2/2008:
Another 411 reader “bmoc04″ forgot he had taken a pic of Hoboken’s Batman a few months ago. “I just noticed that in the photo I just sent, Batman is wearing a different costume than the one you have on 411 now. It may be worth noting that he has different uniforms. Even Batman gets his clothes dirty. I wonder if he has that thing dry cleaned?”

8/1/2008:
Hoboken411 reader Mike spotted Batman on the PATH today!
“You know gas prices are high when even Batman has to resort to riding the Path. It seems he’s even traded the Batmobile for a Huffy.”

Does Batman have sweat glands? That does not look breathable!

I’ve never seen Batman sweat, and he apparently lost his nipples a few movies back too.

Ok now I’VE seen this guy – peddling northbound on Washington (I was heading over to EMPIRE FITNESS where, btw, I own shares, get kickbacks, and run a brothel out the back.) However I digress.
Anyway, this is either:
a) A big joke (maybe)
b) a lost bet (probably not)
c) someone needing to see a mental health pro.
Sadly I’m convinced it’s “c”. I do mean sadly since I do feel badly for the guy. Unless he’s financially set like Bruce Wayne, this could end badly for him.
Seeing this triggered a memory. About 20 years ago I watched a friend descend into madness (sorry…mental illness). He once had everything going for him. A funny gregarious well-liked guy. Then he lost everything – job, family, prospects. He struggled but eventually just let go. Last I saw he was riding a bike around all the time…alone. He had this permanent detached, far away look on his face every time I drove past him. Sounds cliche but he was a mere shadow of his former self.
I could be wrong about Bruce. I hope I am – even if it means feeling foolish about typing out the above story.

This weekend I was on the Path and as the train was sitting in the station, for some reason, it reminded me of the Batman postings and I told my gf about him. No more than a minute later, he comes on the train with the BatBike. Really weird coincedence…should have bought a Mega Millions ticket that night. His bike was pretty high tech; had a bat video phone and wireless Dell keyboard, in addition to a lot of other flair.
