Hoboken’s Caped Crusader

5/7/2010 Update:

Batman fights crime with dance moves

Most residents have seen the honking and pedaling Hoboken Batman riding his bike around town (NEVER on bike lanes – he said “No hero would be caught dead in the bike lanes!”), on the PATH train, and elsewhere. But what does he do? Where does he go?

As you can see from this video – he takes his act to New York City, where he happily dances for hours! Now if they installed “Dance Lanes” in Hoboken, that’d be a different story!

See previous updates from years ago – after the jump!

8/2/2008:

Another 411 reader “bmoc04” forgot he had taken a pic of Hoboken’s Batman a few months ago. “I just noticed that in the photo I just sent, Batman is wearing a different costume than the one you have on 411 now. It may be worth noting that he has different uniforms. Even Batman gets his clothes dirty. I wonder if he has that thing dry cleaned?”

Hoboken411 reader Mike spotted Batman on the PATH today!

“You know gas prices are high when even Batman has to resort to riding the Path. It seems he’s even traded the Batmobile for a Huffy.”

Yesterday evening around 6:30, on Washington near 4th, there was some ambulance activity. Though traffic was flowing– somewhat awkwardly– Batman had parked his bike along the road and was directing traffic. How cool! Batman being a mini-hero. I commend him. He’s got some cojones.

Now that is cool! Wonder if the Ambulance Squad has a Bat light on their HQ? Does the Police “Commissioner” have a direct line to the Bat Cave?

Since Batman is getting lots of fan acitvity, maybe someone could adopt the persona of another superhero or two, and then Hoboken could really be cleaned up.

Here are some suggestions:

This correspondent was walking south past Cluck-U-Chicken and spotted “The Chicken” standing on the street side of the parked cars waving when suddenly there was a loud clucking sound behind me and before I could even turn around the speeding Bicycle Batman and The Chicken were high fiving each other.

It remains uncertain whether we should feel fortunate that we do not have to travel to Disney World to see such a display, or if we should be concerned that this is a sign of the apocalypse.

Newark has its own Batman, who is equally in character at all times. Instead of a bike, he has a Bat Trans Am. His “day job” is being a Newark cop but he does a lot of official appearances so he can probably deduct his Bat gadgets on his taxes. I was meaning to send the pics to H411 for some kind of Batman Battle Jam or something.[quote comment=”192933″]***THIS JUST IN***

I would like to see a dance off between Batman and that guy on 14th and Washington. Before a summer movie in the park they have a dance off and a full house of spectators to vote?[quote comment=”192942″]Newark has its own Batman, who is equally in character at all times. Someone needs to play Robin. Seeing Batman without Robin is incomplete. Maybe Batman will hold tryouts? Aside from Batman I do believe this guy dons a Superman outfit on a part time basis. I saw Superman in the snow this year blocking cars as a firetruck went down the street. Superman had his hand up to halt drivers while waving through the fire truck. Pretty cool sight.

Anyone else think he’s a great character for an episode of Law & Order?

This weekend I was on the Path and as the train was sitting in the station, for some reason, it reminded me of the Batman postings and I told my gf about him. No more than a minute later, he comes on the train with the BatBike. Really weird coincedence…should have bought a Mega Millions ticket that night. His bike was pretty high tech; had a bat video phone and wireless Dell keyboard, in addition to a lot of other flair.
