Auto smash & grabs on Hudson St.

7/31/2008:

One Hoboken411 reader wants to let residents know about a “targeted” area for car break-ins:

Hudson St. car break-ins

“I was wondering if you might be able to spread the word about a series of smash and grabs incidents for cars parked around the 700 block of Hudson street. I live on 8th/Hudson and walk past the area going to the path every day. In the past several months I have noticed several vehicles with smashed drivers side windows or seen lots of glass smashed on the sidewalk/road. I’ve probably noticed about one vandalized car a month so whoever is doing it is smart to not do it all the time and draw attention to it.

I don’t know if Hoboken PD is aware of the problem. If they are, they probably can’t do much about it. I feel bad for the people who park there and don’t know. Its mostly nicer cars that are targeted. There is glass there today and its been on the ground since Monday as evidence.

The area targeted is by the big grassy hill that leads up to the Steven’s parking lot. The grassy hill provides some seclusion (no houses on that side) so its obvious why they have chosen to target cars on that side of the street.

I was thinking of putting some flyers up to make people aware but it probably won’t do much good since people don’t read signs.”

What would people steal GPS devices anyway? Since there is a GPS chip in it, wouldn’t it be very easy to track?

So much for walking patrol. How does a person vandalize dozens of vehicles on HUDSON STREET and Not-a-one cop drove/walked/rolled on by? Guess the robbers are far better than the cops.
Those toy patrol Psuedo-Segways don’t have AC like police headquarters or City Hall. It’s too hot out there for patrols.
good point
