Raging Hoboken dumpster fire

7/25/2008:
This was supposed to be up hours ago, but I got held up a bit… you know.. stuff happens.
Anyway, just after midnight today, a construction dumpster at 812 Washington Street magically caught on fire (it couldn’t have been those new “Fire Safety” cigarettes now, could it)?
I spotted the fire nearly three blocks away and walked with my trusty dog to check it out.
Lo Behold, I run into Roger Muller, of Muller Insurance! He conveniently had snapped exclusive video coverage with his reliable Canon Powershot point and shoot camera. Better than that, he trusted me with his flash memory card so I could make this patriotic video. When I asked him “what soundtrack do you suggest?”, he said “Stars and Stripes, because of the GREAT job the Hoboken Fire Department did.”
“If they got here just a few minutes later, it could have been much worse, possibly damaging nearby vehicles!”
Agreed, Mr. Muller. So here’s your Hoboken411 video debut, along with John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Even if you don’t care to watch a lowly dumpster on fire, at least watch to get into a patriotic mood!

there was definitely a pyro in town last night because someone also lit two trash cans on fire on first street at about 11:15

I was walking home and had to pass that dumpster. A woman who was coming home to her apartment, which is right where the dumster is sitting, could not go inside because of the firemen working on the blaze. She was across the street and she told me before the firemen came, she saw the whole dumpster on fire and then a bunch of kids ran up to it and threw in cardboard and papers that were tied up and ready to be picked up that evening since it was paper night. The jerks caused the flames to shoot even higher and caused so much smoke that people coming from 14th street could smell the fire.

are there any cameras in the buildings or storefronts over there that could help figure out what/who started the fire? If its just kids pulling stupid pranks, why doesn’t someone teach them that they can burn down buildings doing dumb stuff like this?!?!?!?!

No because fires in Hoboken are only caused by cigarettes. Never have there been any other cause.
