How did you spend your economic stimulus check?
Two weeks ago I got a letter from the Internal Revenue Service, like any red blooded American, receiving a letter from them sent a shiver down my spine. Needles to say, I was a little nervous. The last letter I received from them stated that I owed back taxes totaling over $20,000.00. As I opened the letter I realized it was to inform me that I would be receiving an economic stimulus check, thanks to the greatest president to ever rule over these United States of America, George W. Bush! cough. cough.

As I continued to read the letter, It stated that they would be mailing out my check in the next few weeks and that they deducted over 5% for my adjusted income. Apparently if you earned $70,000.00 or above last year you are considered wealthy and do not deserve the full amount of $600.00. I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t know I was wealthy! Anyway, the new amount of my stimulus check was a whopping $278.00! and best of all, they said I did not have to claim this amount on this years income. Gee, thanks guys, but there was no need for that, I am wealthy, don’t you know?
Well, today I got my check and I ran down to the Wachovia to deposit it immediately. Then I went home and opened my mail. I saw that my bill came from Volkswagen for car I am leasing. Wouldn’t you know it, It is exactly $278.00. Well, I happily pulled out my checkbook and wrote out my payment knowing that just this morning I received my stimulus check and had deposited it in my account. Now I feel so satisfied knowing that I did my part to stimulate the US economy. Wait a second, isn’t Volkswagen German?
So, How did you spend your stimulus check?
I also found this site where people can post an image showing how they spent their stimulus checks.

Atleast you got a check!!!! I rec’d the notice that i would get one – but i didn’t think i qualified….so after waiting and waiting I checked with the IRS website and plugged my financial numbers in only to find out that i got ZIP!!! I wasn’t so upset that I didn’t get the stimlus payment, but rather that gov’t the wasted money in sending me a notice saying i would get a rebate that i never was suppose to get
it makes me wonder how much money was wasted in sending out bad notices like mine?

I didn’t get a check but I bet most of the BNR land barons in Hoboken did.

You know- coming on a website and saying you didn’t qualify for a stimulus check is pretty needy (for attention).

More like so bored (at a work mtg). But I meant what I said. The posts reek of “Look at me look at me.”. I suspect you feel as tho you’re part of an elite group-which is funny considering where we live.
I firmly believe taxes should be regionally applied as 70K in nyc isn’t the same as 70K in Idaho.

And there she goes from telling you a-holes spouting how you don’t qualify (because you’re so RICH!!!) to saying that people who make a (respectable!) 70K that they are just poor trash living on the East Coast!
Sorry Scarlett, I had to call you out, especially since we are friends!

No, I was using 70K bc the article used it. Its the same at 30K or 300K. NYers pay more in COI than most other places in the country. Their tax bracket should reflect this.

Actually my point was that despite having worked & studied hard enough to earn more than the maximum allowed for a welfare “stimulus” check, I feel poor, given where I live, when compared to some of the lower income yet asset wealthy people in town who qualify for a check.
So very lonely.

In an ideal world, something like that could work but given how dysfunctional the government is, do you think they could ever implement a policy like this properly?

George Bush tried to bail out his failing, imploding, incompetent party with a bribe to yhe American people.
His poll ratings went ddown to 28% after the checks were issued.
Amusing.

Speaking of tax rebates, is it true that in Dubai tax-free? That’b be a 100% tax rebate check with every sale. Kind of nice.

When this was being bandied about in DC, I was dysfunctional enough to send emails to our US Senators and Sires asking them to help support something just like you are talking about…due to the comparatively high COL in NJ. Or to push for everyone to get checks without regard to income. Apparently we “wealthy” people don’t deserve to be stimulated because we would have just saved the money instead of spending it, just like the H411 cartoon.

I don’t think W.Va would have an influx. I’m talking like in this area, if today you qualify for a 23% tax bracket, and they start taking into account COI, next year you’re at 15% meanwhile W.Va stays at 23%.
Rag- Eat me.
