Dogs eradicated from Maxwell Place

4/16/2008:

As most of you know, the Maxwell Place complex has a waterfront park, and a mini-beach that leads to the debris-filled Hudson. Not for bathing by any means.

But recently, I heard that dogs were pretty much completely banned from the Maxwell Place park, with the exception of the sidewalks and the dog “bin.” While I sort of understand the grass to some extent (because there are some owners who take no responsibility for the poop, and some unruly pooches), but most dogs are just fine with others, and most owners are indeed responsible. Why the tough restrictions?

Signs supposedly going up soon for the grass area, to complement the already installed sign by the beach. My dog loved swimming in the river. What’s the big deal about that?
I think this is great. Those smug elitist bastards over in Maxwell Place have saved their park from evil dogs…and now the geese have invaded and sacked their precious little city.

In some ways they should be happy…they now have a use for those huge wheels on their BMW X5 Strollers.

Truckin through the muck!
I just hope they forget to wash of their shoes when they walk into their apartments. They deserve to get a little goose poop all over their carpets. The geese are a much bigger nuisance that the dogs ever could be.

unfortunately the dogs that are not supposed to be on the grass because people want grass so desperately in this town, have done an awsome job pissing burn marks all over the grass. there is a dog run, use it. don’t like that one? there’s another one 50yards away in the elysian, and an entire city to piss and crap all over.
There are humans and there are pets. Let’s all understand that they are not the same. Parks without dog poop and pee would be nice. And parks for dogs that were well maintained would be nice. I don’t think there should be an equal number of parks for both considering there are more humans than dogs in this city, therefor I am okay with dogs not being allowed on all park ground.
But the last place you want to have as a “dog free” zone is a park that is easily accessable to geese. The dogs actually would help to greatly reduce the geese problem by chasing them away, and that would help reduce the goose poo issue. I would even suggest that the city should go out of its way to make this a “dog friendly” park. Either that or some of those underworked city workers should be hosing down & cleaning up this park hourly…….

have to agree with brian…

people who dont have pets are naturally more stressed out then those with pets.. well mannered pets should be allowed pretty much anyplace, with the exception of food service/prep/sales areas as small children.
