Post rules, racism, censorship
I hope all of you know that running this whole show myself makes it hard to “moderate” each and every comment readers make. You would think in a town full of “respectful” people, I wouldn’t have to. But that’s far from the case (Furey, you can chime in here)
While I have several decent systems in place to keep things somewhat under control, occasionally things turn ugly, sometimes forcing me to remove some off-the-wall stupidity, or even just turn away some customers.
I updated the post rules yesterday, and added a moderation Q&A in case you’re wondering what the deal is.
Hoboken411 has many purposes. Information exchange, news, reviews, politics, and much more. It also serves as a message board for readers and residents to share information, debate topics, and so on.
I kindly ask of all of you, that if your opinion differs from another readers, please refrain from using ridiculous racist remarks or personally insulting comments. It serves no purpose, and essentially makes you look bad. Also, it’d be quite helpful if your contributions stayed on topic, and somehow benefited or informed the other readers. Not too much to ask, is it? Use the rant/rave corners for random topics, or suggest a new topic to me.
And for those of you who cry the “free speech” crap, keep in mind that I’m totally FOR free speech. You can do and say whatever you want on YOUR website.
Lastly, most of the action I’ve taken with regards to removal of comments have come from readers who notified me about a particular offensive or inappropriate entry. Feel free to do the same, as I frequently rely on your eyes and “ears” to spot the bad offenders. Repeat offenders will likely be banned, because my job is hard enough as it is..
Have a nice weekend everyone!
