Tropicana OJ makes you reckless

3/27/2008:

Be aware of nutty a TROPICANA JUICE truck roaming around in Hoboken!

Just overheard on the Live Hoboken Police & Fire channel, a Tropicana truck struck a parked car. This is normally to be expected in our cramped, over-parked town. However, this was the second time this week. And it makes you wonder if whomever has this delivery zone, is a horrible driver.

Here’s what Michelangela owner Stephanie had to say earlier this week:

Remember this when you witness a hit and run

“My Mom’s car was hit today and someone was nice enough to leave her a note saying “A Tropicana Juice Truck Hit your Mirror” and even left us the license plate number! I thought that was really nice and (unfortunately) surprising for Hoboken. I thought that was nice, since most people wouldn’t bother!

However, when she got back from the police station, she said that the police can not include the note in the report since the person didn’t sign the note. I guess if a person signs the note it counts as a “witness” to the accident. No idea what happens with the insurance side of things. I just went out and took a picture and its not bad at all. A few small scratches that will probably end up costing her $500 anyway. So though our good Samaritan was nice enough to leave a note it might not help at all! At least now you can notify Hoboken411.com readers that if they do see a hit and run and decide to leave a note, sign it or leave your email address or some other form of communication you’d be comfortable with. Oh… and that they should throw eggs at Tropicana Juice trucks. (I kid…I kid….)”

why doesn’t the person just say she saw it herself instead of saying the note was left on the car?

So someone witnessed a crime (albiet a minor one), leaves information most likely leading to the person who committed the crime, but the police won’t bother to take that information? I sure hope the person writing this letter kept the note and passes it on to their insurance company. There’s at least a hope of getting something done then. If it’s not in the report, that information pretty much doesn’t exist and another reckless driver gets off scot-free.

Really. The police have a good lead (license plate) which they can trace to a certain vehicle owned by a certain company, which likely has very good records of where that vehicle was that day and who was driving it, but for whatever reason they can’t be bothered to follow up?

My insurance company informed me how useless they felt the HPD was in dealing with any sort of hit-and-run. Don’t tell me they have better things to do – there was a whole task force who was supposed to be dealing with things like this as their job.

Wonder why your insurance is so expensive in Hoboken? Partly because so many people are getting away with things like this.

Same thing happened to me a couple years back with a Poland Spring truck. I was without a passenger sideview mirror for quite a while before I got around to fixing it. No note, just some construction guys who told me it was a Poland Spring truck. Would have been great to have had some solid proof. The joys of having a car in Hoboken.

Well maybe someone here knows who signed the note.. but either way assuming the juice truck was on its way to shoprite I would head over there.

Get the contact information for the vendor and go from there. It most likely some shipping company that contracts to tropicana..
