City Fresh Market in Union City lures Hoboken customers

Our mail room was recently stuffed to the brim with supermarket fliers from City Fresh Market (“Mi Bandera”) from up the hill in Union City, NJ.

Seems kind of odd that a store from a neighboring city would try to lure customers from “affluent” Hoboken, when we already have at least five fully functioning supermarkets that are a lot more convenient (A&P, ShopRite, Kings (2), Aspen).

I wonder if they can sense that people in Hoboken might be looking to “save” wherever possible? Some of the prices in the flier seemed pretty good (whole bags of onions & potatoes for under $1?)

Additionally, City Fresh Market looks like they have a very wide selection of ethnic food types (mostly Latin American). Might be worth investigating, especially since they appear to have parking!

The flier also mentioned free delivery, but it appears they don’t service Hoboken (and they didn’t respond to emails inquiring about it). Either way, we’ll check it out one day and report back.

Not so sure that large corporations care about supposed incivility of the local government, supposed entitlement of the local populace, or the number of traffic tickets handed out by the local parking enforcement. They care about how much disposable income the target customers have.

Sounds like some pretty good deals! Though we usually buy organic and are also generally careful about products we buy (checking expiration dates, origins of food such as local vs. non-local, etc.) this place definitely seems worth checking out.

Union City and the Heights also have fish markets that are very good. One on Central actually cooked my whole fish gratis!
Sounds like some pretty good deals! Better food for less money outside of Hoboken. Blame the rents and parking tickets.
Union City and the Heights also have fish markets that are very good. One on Central actually cooked my whole fish gratis!
Goes beyond money. The lack of civility and sense of entitlement of Zimmer’s clan is driving not only businesses but people away.
Better food for less money outside of Hoboken. Blame the rents and parking tickets.
