Message from Dawn Zimmer

2/7/2008:

4th Ward Councilwoman Dawn Zimmer sent out an email communique last night.

Most of it I can quickly sum up: A reminder of the 1203 Fire Fundraiser Tonight and on February 12th; And a mini-warning for the flooding rainstorm that didn’t happen yesterday.

However, she did point out a helpful hint that will come in handy when we DO have flooding again:

What can you do about the flooding?

dawn-zimmer-hoboken-family-pic.jpg“Report any evidence of sewage backing up into our streets to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.

Call 1-877-WARN-DEP/877-927-6337! A phone call helps, and a photo or video is even better. Yes folks, we need a poop patrol. So if you see poop, toilet paper, etc. that clearly shows our sewage is backing up into the streets, then call to report it immediately.

Why bother? What will it do anyway? I asked a supervisor at the DEP enforcement office this question. He told me homeowners in Jersey City have forced their City’s sewage authority to move and upgrade a sewage line that ran under their homes after they regularly called to report problems and showed evidence of sewage backup.

I’m working with volunteers on several different fronts to try and tackle our flood problem, but I hope the community can help put on the pressure for a solution.

Thanks and I hope to see many of you at the fundraisers.

Doh, does this mean they are actually considering doing this? That would be so wrong… It’s impossible for anyone else to get a liquor license within the 200 or so feet of an existing license, but if Tattoli manages to get one here it would be as bad as it gets…

Last night dozens of cabbies showed up to protest the auctioning up of more hack medallions.

Anytime the Russos want something they trot out their tired people to line up behind the mike.

Moral of this story is the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you can demonstrate real support for something they’ll give. Phone calls are just one way of doing this.

No, don’t worry. Mayor Robert is working on a solution that will be implemented in three to four years. 🙄

I wonder if we can call that phone line if we need a sewage drain? a light drizzle makes the front of my house look like a lake. Once in a while a random turd will be doing back strokes. Pleas to the city have fallen on deaf ears.
