Wow – Common Core? What is education these days anyway?

what you need to know about common coreBefore I get started with this relatively brief post about common core (more reading reference than opinion) – honestly ask yourself the following questions:

What is eduction? What is the true purpose?

Why is “public” education, and education in general “required by law?”

Why must government on all levels be fully involved with “public schooling?”

Why are there “standardized tests?” And what good are they really?

How did the world manage before overly-controlled “education?”

All you need to know about Common Core: Need two-hour attention span

Not going to get into the specifics – however, “Common Core” is getting attention more and more these days. And it’s not good attention. The type of attention it’s getting is basically summed up as “How in the world did this happen?”

Well – without further adieu, please watch the following presentation. It’s a shade over 2 hours – but it will teach you everything you need to know about Common Core, the history, and the purpose. If you can’t tolerate this – then you choose not to be informed about something that is shockingly important.

Other brilliant reading – John Taylor Gatto

There are a couple pieces that you also need to read to “understand” it all. They’re from a renowned teacher named John Taylor Gatto. One written piece is called The Six Lesson Schoolteacher. Read it and study up on this former teacher while you’re at it. Written decades ago, but its relevance is equally, if not more important now, than ever.

The next piece is an interview with Gatto back in 1997. Fascinating across the board. Makes you think about the schooling you received, and puts it into an entire new light.

To challenge “what is, and always has been” is crucial in more ways than you can imagine. It’s getting much harder by the day to find people with that mentality.

PS – I know most of you will skim over this – because that is Human Nature. But for those that have a deep curiosity for life – and feel like they want to “put more puzzle pieces together by the day…” then you are welcome here.
