City Council – 1/16/2008 Preview

1/16/2008:

Tonight’s agenda for the Hoboken City Council meeting is too light to preview, but if any fireworks are to take place, expect them to come from the Hoboken Police Department and the recent “non-indictments.”

Turned out to be a GREAT meeting, if you like black comedy. Highlights:

1. The city is actually broke, and needed to borrow $18 million to get through the next two months.

2. The city authorized a certificate of completion for a portion of the NW redevelopment zone project, without having the slightest idea (or any enforcable agreement) and to when or if future promised “give-backs” will be provided.

3. Finance committee chair Russo made much hay over directing the city to keep spending to last year’s levels, despite a) knowing those levels are currently being exceeded, and b) not making the slightest efforts to compel the administration to cut back.

4. We are about to install automated cameras thet seem likely to give you a ticket if you fail to stop for THREE FULL SECONDS at a stop sign.
