Hoboken dead tree of the day

Where is the dead tree of the day? 1st & Park

Some “Tree City USA” Hoboken is. It appears that something bad happens to a tree at least once a day. And today’s dead tree of the day (was) located near 1st Street and Park Avenue.

This time, a truck “got stuck” under one, and essentially destroyed it. Police had to close the road, and keep the truck in place to prevent further damage from falling limbs.

A contractor was summoned by the city to completely remove the damaged tree. Reliable Tree Services from North Bergen gets to tap the property tax-payer coffers for this job.

You’d think that if the city truly “cared” about the trees the way they lead you to believe (with dopey sugar-coated press releases) – they’d put some effort into actually maintaining them (you know, proper pruning, etc.), ensuring that a minimum branch height is maintained to prevent “unscheduled” mishaps like this from happening. Nope. Our city is reactive, not proactive. Sorry, you voted ’em in!

Bummer. Sadly, they never replace any of the trees that get knocked down on 1st. There has to be at least 7 spots that you see the old tree placement bricked over.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
