The Gateway to Weehawken

Gateway to Weehawken progressing quickly

Wow – “The Gateway to Weehawken” apartment complex on the north border of Hoboken is taking shape in a hurry as of late.

Below are some pictures I snapped recently.

Gotta love the scenery the new uptown soccer field has. I wonder if any Hoboken dads have used this as an opportunity to teach their kids on how to mark stuff up 15000% to make maximum profit?

Uptown Development: “The Gateway to Weehawken”

6/11/2013 Update:

Many Hoboken411 readers have been asking “What’s being built between the Willow and Park Avenue bridges just to the north of Hoboken?” Well – this is “The Gateway” apartment building project!

Gateway to Weehawken in the works for almost a decade

Originally dubbed “The Gateway to Weehawken,” this project was actually approved by the Weehawken Planning Board way back in 2004!

It’s initial design called for a 10 story, 200,000 square foot building and 100 units. The first design was sort of along the lines of an ugly property like the Curling Club in Hoboken. Not too flashy. But the concept included three levels of parking, as well as ground floor retail space. Regardless – the building would have some of the best Hudson River and NYC Skyline views!

THE GATEWAY in Weehawken, NJ springs to life in 2013

Fast forward to 2013, and we have a new updated design (along with more density – 150 units). The developers consider this new building to be “The Gateway;” A so-called “visual threshold” between Weehawken and Hoboken, as well as “a showpiece for the city of Weehawken.”

They claim the new design is rises from “a stark opposition to the aging industrial zone” it’s situated in, and will be a “new icon” for Hudson County, since it will be one of the first buildings visible for cars and buses emerging from the Lincoln Tunnel.

In addition, The Gateway will have spectacular views and sun exposure with walls of glass, a southern facing brise soleil, and a rooftop pool and deck.

Note that this building is just to the north of the NJ Transit Light Rail tracks. There was talk recently of yet another Light Rail station at 18th Street serving both Hoboken and Weehawken commuters.

I bet some developers here in Hoboken are a bit jealous. These guys didn’t have to contend with our planning or zoning boards!

I’m not sure we need developers running rampant over town without zoning regulations. This is a great looking building, but they do benefit from building in an area where nobody currently lives. This makes getting through any opposition a lot easier.

anyone do a traffic study on this new project. its situated in the most unaccessible area of weehawken unless you only want to access the Squeeze, then its perfect.

Imagine all of the residents trying to take the bus into the city only to have full bus after full bus pass them by.
