Slider Street – Doomed?

What happened to Slider Street in Hoboken?

After we thought that Slider Street was generally well-received in Hoboken last year, it appears they’ve closed.

One Hoboken411 reader suggested that they might be “moving elsewhere” – but they didn’t respond to emails, and their website is “offline.” Additionally, their social media presence has not been updated since the end of last month.

Some possible scenarios:

  • Business partnership dissolved (I think four or five were involved). Whomever had the branding and copyright probably not being cooperative.
  • Being forced out by landlord? Not likely, especially since site is offline.
  • Not making enough money to continue (maybe, but I thought they were doing fine. But “cutting” the profits four or five ways must suck).

Who knows, but I know at least a few people who are kind of upset the place isn’t operating. They could at least offer some kind of explanation?

Slider Street in Hoboken, NJ aims for March 2014 opening

Wow, feels like a year since we mentioned that Slider Street was coming to 138 Park Avenue.

Well, despite a failed Kickstarter project, and setback after setback, the owners of Slider Street are now hopeful that they will be open to the public sometime next month.

With Bareburger and Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries coming to town this year – the “burger market” will definitely have many new options for Hoboken residents.

Slider Street coming late 2013 to Hoboken, NJ

Slider Street hopes to ride the mini hamburger wave

Even though dozens of restaurants in Hoboken already offer versions of the “slider” hamburger (mini meat sandwiches), Slider Street hopes to earn regular customers with their custom recipes (as well as mini-buns from Marie’s).

As you can see – the interior of this location is far from being ready, but they hope by building hype now, people will already love them before tasting a bite.

“Slider Street Hoboken will be opening up in the Summer/Fall of 2013. Housed in the landmark, Marie’s Bakery, Slider Shack will be renovating while keeping the tradition of Frank Sinatra’s favorite bakery by providing all of our gourmet sliders on Marie’s world-famous buns. Follow us in our journey from restoration to the grand opening. Slider Shack is proud to join the community of Hoboken by providing gourmet sliders and sides using only top quality and fresh ingredients. See you soon!”

Slider Street will not just be meat burgers, however – as they plan to offer a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu – as well as delivery, which should help since they’re off the main drag.

In the end – even though people can already enjoy sliders anywhere, Slider Street will have to accomplish at least two things in order to survive. One, offer products that are unique and tasty, and two: for a good value to ensure repeat business.

Good luck Slider Street !

I only went there 1 time. Spent $15 on 3 sliders and fries and was still hungry. Totally agree w/ nbm6. Had to sell a lot of sliders to pay the rent.

Slider Street closed, say they might be opening in a new location. Do you have any information?

Because the rent is cheaper, there are more people looking for good food rather than looking to just get drunk, it’s easier to park, they don’t boot you at every opportunity…need I say more?
Hoboken is losing it’s appeal to people who are looking for more than just a post-fraternity part town.
