Spring rain = Hoboken flooding

Hoboken flooding slams residents after spring rain shower

Hoboken Flooding May 8 2013This morning, a heavy spring rain storm arrived on the shores of Hoboken exactly at the same time as high tide. The result? More Hoboken flooding.

Many residents had Hurricane Sandy flashbacks – with basements flooded all over the city. The west side, downtown, midtown and even along the uptown waterfront.

Certainly not to the extent as the superstorm of last year, but still has affected much of the city with traffic delays and minor damage. Not fun by any means!

The water has mostly receded at this point.

Here’s what Hoboken411 reader Kristin saw near the Shoprite this morning. Nearby buildings had their lobbies flooded. Bring back memories?

I work out at the CKO in these pictures. When I got to the gym this morning, the sidewalks were fine. By the time I left, about 40 minutes later, the water was calf-deep and utterly reeked of sewage. I almost threw up as I waded through it – no exaggeration. I guess I’ll have to start packing a raft and a gas mask.

Can anyone confirm that all of the flooding has receded from the Southwest area of Hoboken? Trying to plan my commute home and don’t feel like sitting in traffic until tomorrow morning

What? Is this really true? If so, that’s outrageous!
Hoboken street cleaners ticket contractors pumping out apartments on 7th. Appalling behavior.
The pump station can’t work during high tide. There’s nowhere to pump the water as the outflows on the Hudson are submerged. High tide was at 7:59am this morning right during the worst part of the storm so Hoboken floods just like always. This is just the way it is.
