Mayor halts flag football game

11/11/2007:

Just overheard on the live police scanner, Mayor Roberts had just phoned police headquarters ordering that all flag football games taking place at Pier A park be stopped.

He apparently wanted the park cleared in preparation for a Veteran’s Day event that is being arranged.

Why did the kids have to move?
Because it was being used for a ceremony to honor the veterans of the Revolutionary – Iraqi Wars.

Same reason they shut down Washington street during “Arts” and Music Festivals, St. Patrick Day and Memorial Day parades.

“Throw me the fucking ball” is something you dont want to hear during a moment of silence.
I can see that, I guess. But it’s a huge park…all activities cease?

About 1/10 of it used to be grass, and is now a 9/11 memorial.
