2012 Hoboken Business Year in Review
Hoboken nets more new businesses for 5th year in a row
Some people are worried about the economy, and often point out the many “empty storefronts” in Hoboken.
One can argue convincingly that the “downward trend” is most certainly evident in most other places in the country – but Hoboken somehow still hasn’t reached the “tipping point.” How long that can continue, is anyone’s guess.
While nearly 20% of all new businesses started in 2011 failed to make it to the end of the 2012 – we actually now have over 120 net new businesses in Hoboken since 2007. Amazing!

Is retail shopping a thing of the past with online convenience?
A combination of rising brick & mortar rents, and incredible bargains online – you wonder how retail shops in Hoboken can even survive anymore.
With the exception of unique products, and absolute necessities (i.e., convenience) how would you manage to survive in this city?
And don’t forget – Hurricane Sandy certainly did not help many businesses this year. Especially those barely hanging on. Wonder how next year’s list will look once all the dust settles.
