Condo Fire Sale in J.C.

A small random tidbit while I watch the Yankees struggling lose.

Several readers mentioned a fire over in Jersey City that was visible from Manhattan. It is the 77 Hudson building, which is a K. Hovanian property. While it was under construction, and just a shell of a building, it’s oddly coincidental that their advertising has mysteriously disappeared nearly around the same time as this fire. This will likely delay their project somewhat.

From Fox News:

High-Rise Under Construction Burns in Jersey City

77-hudson-jersey-city-fire-k-hovanian.jpgFire broke out Monday night near the top of a high-rise building under construction in Jersey City.

Dozens of firefighters are battling the blaze, which was reported shortly after 9 p.m. in an elevator well between the 17th and 18th floors at the 77 Hudson Street construction site.

There are no reports of injuries. Firefighters reportedly were having trouble accessing the fire. Flames could be seen across the Hudson River in Manhattan.

I live 2 blocks from that fire and I didn’t even know it was going on– I hear so many sirens I usually dismiss it. I went out to check it out and my street was blocked off right at the corner and they were evacuating some people– I had my cat and dog ready to go –but I got lucky i live just far enough to be out of danger. The streets are still blocked off at this hour.

sorry 411 i did take my camera out but couldn’t get close enough for pics

It was probably some dumb Yankee fan smoking some rock and hitting the glass dick because they were getting their asses kicked.

Merrill Lynch closed their building next door for the day. The project will go on, since only of the 14th-16th floors caught on fire, mostly the wood forms used in the concrete pouring. The Jersey City Fire Dept was able to make it all the way up to the 14th floor where the standpipe ended. It is suspected that the fire started in an elevator shaft.

I ran downstairs to my computer to inform him and his response was, “check the first page”. This boy is on top of things.

Excellent Work, my friend. Your the best (in case you didn’t know)
Heh. You ARE amazing 411! How’d you know about that fire, anyhow?
Maybe you can change your screen name to “Scoop.”
