Little piece of Hoboken gone
Unique Hoboken property finally leveled for new development
That little “hut” near JFK Stadium at 10th & Jefferson was one of the few pieces of “old Hoboken” in an area surrounded by new condo developments.
Well, they recently leveled that property and it’s gone forever. How do you feel about that?
Yes is becoming completely a Levitstown of condos – wall-to-wall – all housing the same demographic.
I won’t miss it.
It is sad that I did not learn about the history of that house until it was gone.
I have seen pictures of the back end of town and it had farms and a lot of open land.
Wasn’t there a pool or something at Columbus park way back?
In Columbus Park, aka 10th st park, there was a reflecting pool and it had koi fish, aka gold fish, in it. And in the spring there would be 1000’sof tulips blooming and the hudson county park police who patrolled it and would boot you in the ass if you even put one foot on the grass.
It is sad that I did not learn about the history of that house until it was gone. I remember it well too. Pop brought me up there on Sunday mornings. We visited my aunt who live across the street from the park (now applied).
68 remember only to well..the county fulled the pool with ibelieve trout.Do you recall when the kids would say the columbus statue was peeking into windows.lot The vets house,on 10th and another simular type on on monroe st near ST Josephs’ church.
I’m sure they were gold fish and they stop putting them in and drained the pond in the late 50’s early 60’s. The house’s were built for disabled vets by the state if i remember right.
68 remember only to well..the county fulled the pool with ibelieve trout.Do you recall when the kids would say the columbus statue was peeking into windows.lot The vets house,on 10th and another simular type on on monroe st near ST Josephs’ church.
There was a twin to that house right next door ( where the new 5 story condo currently is). I went to some GREAT parties in that other house.
There was a house almost identical on Monroe Street between Observer Hwy and first street own by a vet named D’Angelo. Don’t know if it’s still there as I haven’t passed there in years.
