The suspect who is wanted for the pipe-beating a few days ago is about to be apprehended, and “brought in for invest.” while the detective bureau finalizes the arrest warrant. HPD is following the homeless man involved, as he’s on his way to the soup kitchen at 57 8th Street.
The Journal reported this after reading the police report that it was a homeless man who assaulted the individual, leaving him in a bloody pool. It was some kind of verbal dispute, and the police are still investigating.
The victim was treated for head trauma at JCMC. He is now conscious in the ICU.
A 411 reader witnessed this today (while I was away from police radio), around 6pm. No cause yet reported. Did anyone else hear about this or know what happened?
“I just drove by Barnes and Noble down on Washington and something had just happened. There was a man lying on the ground, bleeding ALL OVER the road. I saw a pipe next to him. There were about a dozen people standing around him, and I saw another man trying to tell the one cop that was on the scene that whoever did it (I don’t know if there was a hit and run, or if the guy got shot, or hit by the pipe that was on the ground next to him) had just tore off down washington over to observer. The cop was not interested, and instead went over to the guy laying on the ground. Then, the other guy who was yelling at the cop started yelling “GO GET HIM, HE JUST LEFT! WHY ARE YOU STANDING THERE WITH HIM, WE’RE HERE! GO GET THE GUY!!!” But again, the cop was more interested in helping the guy.
Keep up the good work!”
