hoboken-teatro-pregones-theater.jpgThe Puerto Rican Cultural Committee of Hoboken will sponsor the only Hudson County performance of the Pregones Theater Summer Stage production “La Caravana/The Caravan”. This lively musical production, a new staging of the ensemble’s original bilingual play, will be presented on Friday, August 10 at 6:30 P.M. at Hoboken’s Sinatra Park, 5th Street and Sinatra Drive. The performance, in English and Spanish, will be free of charge and suitable for family audiences.

Performed by actors in colorful Puerto Rican “vejigante” (carnival masquerader) costumes, the play, written by Alván Colón Lespier with original music by Desmar Guevara, is based on the poem “The Saltimbanco’s Elegy” by Puerto Rican poet Luis Palés Matos and on the folk legend of María Sabida as told by Neuyorican author Judith Ortiz Cofer.

Pregones Theater’s Summer Stage brings together professional theater artists and local community presenters to offer live bilingual entertainment to audiences of all ages in the Tri-State region. Major support for Summer Stage is provided by JPMorgan Chase, with additional support from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

According to the Jersey Journal, it depends on who you ask…

“Yesterday’s scheduled Puerto Rican Festival parade was delayed, then cancelled, and organizers and cops are each blaming the other.”

Same old, same old, with Dawn Zimmer thrown into that mess too (According to city hall these days, whatever is not her fault is Beth Mason’s).

The Pregones event is run by a different Puerto Rican group and it has the support of Geri Fallo and the city. I would not expect any problems there.

Good question.

What happened to the parade?
