Letter: Anti-bullying violations in Hoboken
Hoboken resident and parent Elizabeth Markevitch sent in this letter regarding the unprofessional and vile behavior exhibited by several city employees.
Unacceptable behavior from Hoboken “City Officials”
“This year marks a major overwhelming bipartisan effort in NJ to implement Anti Bullying provisions in Schools.
Hoboken Public Schools have a very serious problem with bullying. Concerns and reports from parents and students are often disregarded according to several parents and students who had reported bullying. According to the Hoboken School Policy against Harassment and bullying it is defined “To be considered harassment, the behavior must be unwelcome by the recipient and have the effect of creating a hostile environment.”
However, in Hoboken bullying seems to be permitted by various members of it’s School Board. For instance The Majority “Kids First” has a graphic designer who has engaged in bullying, making fun of and harassing anyone who disagrees with them. Recently she said, “I want to shoot someone,” referring to people in government (and private citizens) with whom she disagrees. When questioned, it is explained as “satire.”
Harassment, racism, vileness are poor examples to set
“In a June Board of Education meeting another board member testified that President and Vice President Rose Markle and Theresa Minutillo made fun of a teachers foreign accent during committee meetings, and comments were made and used in an evaluation regarding Cheng-Yen Hillenbrand, who was ultimately fired. The Kids First hired an interim superintendent and his assistant Rusack who openly yelled at and harassed a teacher in a school board meeting when she claimed to have no knowledge of a line in a supposed letter he was reading from her file. Over 80 people witnessed this and yet the board did nothing to stop this public bullying. Afterwords, it was found the letter did not contain the sentence which Rusack had read out loud at the meeting . This was clearly an attempt to besmirch her qualifications!
One of the purposes of Board of Education Meetings is to give the community an opportunity to listen to proposed plans and decisions which will affect Hoboken students and to provide a supportive environment for community members to express their thoughts and concerns on these issues. Surprisingly, and quite inappropriately, Board Of Education President Ms. Markle, continually roles her eyes when questions are asked or criticism comments are made from the public during these meetings.
Hoboken High School has very serious problems with bullying. This is not surprising since Kids First members of the BOE and their associates such as Zoning Board of Adjustments member Nancy Pincus are bullies themselves. If anyone disagrees with an action or plan, they are ridiculed, labeled corrupt and vilified by their small but vocal circle of lonely minions. When I ran for School Board with Real Results, Nancy Pincus publicly disseminated a photo of our heads in a bowl of fluid containing excrement. When the Kids First team was asked for an apology – none was given. Putting pictures of candidates in excrement and stating you want to shoot someone is Harassment and Bullying as defined by the State of NJ and the School. The Kids First team must follow rules and dismiss Nancy Pincus or The Kids First members should be reported to the State and graded an “F” for leading and aiding in the bullying.
