Redevelopment Zones Abound!

In case you’re wondering what the future possibilities are in Hoboken, and maybe in your neighborhood, here’s a list of all the Redevelopment Zones that are currently active.

Also, if you’d like to get involved in any way besides Hoboken411, here are some links for various groups that were formed to try to ensure that the City doesn’t foul up our neighborhoods and already crumbling infrastructure. If you really want to go nuts, you can even attend City Council meetings or Planning Board meetings as well.

Southwest Redevelopment:
One of the hotter topics in town, and a focal point in the 4th Ward run-off elections (at least for one candidate). Read the Hoboken411 entry & comments, along with the “official” PDF from the city.

There is another Planning Board meeting for this one June 18th.

Municipal Public Works Garage:
Read the Hoboken411 entry and associated comments, and see the “official” PDF from the City. They’re currently arguing over building height, etc.

Hoboken Rail Yard (NJ Transit) Redevelopment Study:
Possibly 1000’s more condos, high-rises, and traffic. Read a couple 411 entries HERE and HERE. The “official” PDF from the city HERE.

And a NEW ONE, the “NoHo” Redevelopment Area:
I read the PDF and it’s indicating “17th Street”, which I don’t see on the map. Not sure if they mean the area north of the Light Rail tracks, or if they actually meant 16th Street.

There is a meeting for this on June 11th.

For NoHo area it looks like most of the properties are on 16th and 17th Street. On the deeds, the property owners for a bulk of the properties are NJ Junction R.R, ABC Bailing Wire, 1715 Grand Street LLC, and Franco Carmine Co.

I run up through that way on my way to Weehawkin and it def needs some work.

the light rail line aligment in that section (where it goes East-West) is the old aligment of 17th Street (from before the Conrail River Line)

I didn’t know Hoboken proper extended past the light rail tracks – interesting. That “NoHo” document mentions 17th Street. Where is that? I can’t find it on Google Maps. Is it that shady dirt road between the train tracks and Extra Space?
