Hoboken crime and fire action: August 13, 2011

An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Saturday August 13, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.

Crimes, Incidents, Fire Calls & Vehicular mishaps

  • 3:00am (8/14/2011): Flashlight Crims?
A Hoboken resident phoned police about three white males “looking into businesses” near 1214 Washington St. That’s right near where the cash register burglary took place last week.
Update: Apparently these guys were “looking for their glasses.” Hmmm.
  • 2:30am (8/14/2011): Hoboken Flooding
HPD reports flooding in various areas around town – including 2nd & Garden Streets. I warned everyone earlier about the potential flooding threat in Hoboken!
  • 2:10am (8/14/2011): Fight, KO, Arrest, EMS
A bad fight occurred at 2nd & Bloomfield, which resulted in one man knocked unconscious, and another drunken tool under arrest. Probably from McSwiggan’s. Hoboken EMS en route. Guys! Maybe drinking in public isn’t for you?
  • 1:30am (8/14/2011): Man down
Reports of another drunken tool passed out on 14th St. between Washington & Bloomfield. Bonus: the rain will minimize the vomit smells.
  • 1:25am (8/14/2011): Fondue Fight!
Wow, never thought I’d report this – but there is a fight going on at The Melting Pot fondue restaurant downtown. I mean that place is dead already, what could they be fighting over? Double-dipping?
  • 12:33am (8/14/2011): More police intervention
Reports of a ANOTHER street fight at 2nd & Washington, near Black Bear. Must be the humidity and drizzle. What else can you blame?
  • 12:32am (8/14/2011): Street fight!
Reports of a street fight at 12th & Washington, near Molfetta Pizza. Damn, drunks be mad!
  • 12:30am (8/14/2011): House fight!
HPD was dispatched to the basement apartment at 932 Washington St. (under You Lucky Dog!), for a fight. A man of non-American decent was outside hollering and begging passerby to call police. Seriously – do you think people are angrier and more violent these days?
  • 12:10am (8/14/2011): Inaugural Entry for Pilsener Haus Biergarten!
It didn’t take long for the Pilsener Haus & Biergarten to make the Hoboken411 Police Blotter. Several reports coming out of this new bar uptown – instances of public urinating and many parking complaints. You just can’t open up a popular bar in Hoboken anymore (see: Village Pourhouse)
  • 11:28pm: Uptown Drunk
Reports of an inebriated man causing a disturbance at Maxwell Place uptown. The concierge of the building called it in. Man, will they start rating buildings in Hoboken at “drunks per square foot?”
  • 11:24pm: Downtown Drunk
A “man down” (drunk passed out) near 1st & Bloomfield downtown. This area is known for folks who publicly over-indulge in alcohol consumption.
  • 11:20pm: Unknown Knocker
A woman living near 11th & Willow phoned police because an unknown man was angrily knocking on her door on the 2nd floor, and she wasn’t expecting visitors! This happens a lot in Hoboken multi-unit buildings. Usually an angry drunk.
  • 7:50pm: Waterfront Assault
HPD reported a juvenile female who was assaulted near 3rd & Sinatra Drive, across the street from the W Hotel – EMS en route.
  • 5:20pm: Dead body on cliff!
Hoboken Police are working with Union City Police to identify what appears to be a dead body near the cliff on the west side of town between 9th & 11th Streets. (South of the Doric). Note: The homeless have their shanty towns along the cliff… a possibility.
5:50pm Update: HPD identified the man as James Borges who once lived at 318 Harrison St. He was 34 years old. FBI en route, and cause of death is unknown until an autopsy is performed by medical examiners.
  • 2:15pm: Blade-wielding shoplifter
A man was confronted for shoplifting at Walgreen’s downtown, when he pulled a blade on the security team – who then ran into their office and locked the door. Hoboken Police suspect they know who this man is… but he has not been apprehended yet.

More to come later…
