Nothing beats local fireworks

Happy 4th Hoboken – but don’t forget what it means to be local!

Hoboken411 wishes everyone a Happy Independence Day Weekend! (that’s July 4th for the lamen)

Whether you enjoy the Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular here in town – going to the shore or on an extended vacation, I hope that everyone is safe and sound (enjoy in moderation, of course). Hoboken411 will be online and running as if it were any another day – so be sure to check in regularly to see what updates we have coming your way.

Speaking of local (Hoboken411 is an Authentically Local site, of course) – I wanted to re-share the awesome video I made for the New Year’s 2011 fireworks that were held right here in Hoboken this year! Some of you may have missed it due to the holidays – so here it is again for your viewing pleasure. A lot of fun, and my editing and camerawork chronicles what it truly felt like to be there after the revelry of the evening.

To me, something about a true, homegrown and locally-inspired event that trumps the mega-budget operations every time. There’s soul, connection and personality that cannot ever be achieved by phony posers and corporate entities. Enjoy!

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets an eye or a hand blown off, or a rocket starts a fire. I used to have a next door neighbor who shot off fireworks every New Year’s Eve in the street. They would land in trees and hit houses across the street and sometimes cars. A few times I saw rockets go sideways instead of up, which could have killed someone. And those “bombs” could easily take out an entire car or shatter a window. I finally had it out with him and asked him to at least go to an open park if he had to do it. Besides, not everyone appreciates the loud noise. Babies and dogs are especially upset by it, and believe it or not some people actually want to just SLEEP instead of having that sound in their ears. I’ll be at the river tomorrow night watching the pros put on a great show and hoping no one on my block is shooting off their own. There’s a reason fireworks are illegal–they should not be in the hands of… Read more »
