America’s Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Expanding to Hoboken

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, the largest quick-serve barbecue chain in the country, continues to grow as the initial plans begin to open the first franchise location in New Jersey.

“Being from Texas, I grew up with Dickey’s BBQ. Since moving to the northeast, I’ve had a chance to have some of the very best food from a variety of cuisines, but I never felt like the barbecue came close to what I was able to get back home in Texas. So I decided to do something about it,” said the new owner/operator Alan Cohen, a graduate of Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

This is the first Dickey’s Barbecue franchise opportunity for Cohen.

It’s not about gimmicks with Dickey’s, it’s about giving people the very best in barbecue using the same recipe and cooking techniques that have been used since the first Dickey’s opened in 1941,” said Cohen.

Texas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is well-known for their hot pit-smoked signature meats, complimentary ice cream and the big yellow cups.

“We are so thrilled Alan Cohen will be bringing his Texas roots to the Hoboken community,” President of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. Roland Dickey, Jr. said. “As our company grows, we grow as a family. This is another great opportunity for the company.”

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will serve up 9 different hickory-smoked meats that are slow cooked every night, along with a vast array of home-style sides to the Hoboken area.

Since early 2011, Dickey’s has opened 12 stores nationwide and 60 are set to open before the end of 2011.

The preparation prior to opening a Dickey’s franchise is extensive, ensuring that owner/operators are thoroughly prepared to hit the ground running.

“We have so many new owner/operators who are investing with us. With this economy, we are glad people trust us for success and we certainly don’t take that for granted. Their victory is our victory and we don’t plan on going anywhere but up,” Dickey said.

The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family. There are 147 locations in 33 states. More information on Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is available at www.dickeys.com.

Anybody ever have Dickey’s before? I’m waiting for field intelligence from a friend in Texas, who will go there on my behalf, but I’d love to hear from anybody who’s already in-the-know?

The locations are still being finalized. Where could it be other than Barnes & Noble or Blockbuster?

Looks a bit like fast food. But at the same time, also looks damn tasty. I think they’ll do quite well here.

Still sad that Joey’s is gone. That was some of the best bbq in the state. Glad someone is stepping up, can’t wait to give it a try.
