60 Second Review: Joe’s Prime Meats

[Continuing the original Hoboken411 60 Second Review Series…]

Joe’s Prime Meats – a Hoboken revival!

In case you didn’t know, Joe’s Prime Meats (918 Washington St.) was recently sold. The owner Joe – sold it to his long time chef Augie, who is running the operation under the same name.

You might want to consider Joe’s for your summer BBQ needs (they use the same supplier as Truglio’s – another fantastic Hoboken butcher).

However, Joe’s also sells prepared food (sandwiches, salads, other dishes). And with Augie now fully in charge of the menu – let’s just say he’s “spicing it up a bit” with some Mexican flair – Empanadas, Quesadillas and more.

Here’s a few bullet points to round out this 60-second review:

  • Freshest burgers in Hoboken: Did you know that Joe’s sells burgers & fries too? The 100% freshest hamburger you will EVER eat in Hoboken. Straight from the meat grinder to the grill. Who else does that? (and the “skinny fries” that go along with it are superb.
  • Cucumber Salad – “WOW!”: You’d think a simple salad with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes wouldn’t be that special to write about. Think again. Augie uses his brother’s secret recipe – and has produced a phenomenal dish bursting with flavor. The key is lime juice, cilantro plus a little oil & vinegar. Bring that to your next party or BBQ to impress your friends and family.
  • Empanadas: Also very delicious – and exactly how you’d want them. Tip: I think they taste better re-heated rather than just fried. Gives time for the juices to soak in.

Got a 6 foot hero from Joe’s for the 4th and it was great. Chicken cutlets, fresh mutz and roasted peppers was delicious!

I am a BEC sandwich regular Saturday mornings (well, most Saturdays much to my waistline’s dismays). Though I was wondering for a few weekends, where is Hershey and Joe’s “Hi Hon! What can I get you, Les?” I finally asked, “Where’s Joe?” “Oh, you had apprenticed then bought? Good for you!, Augie!”

I miss Joe and Hersh-dog, but the BECs are just as good, and the meat looks just as tempting, though I haven’t yet bit. Then again, I usually bought chops or frozen italien yummies on a whim while being hungry waiting for sandwich.

I agree: I purchased fresh thin sliced chicken cutlets, chop meat, and steaks, and
they are top shelf.

Joe’s is great. They are nice in there too, and it’s not nearly as hectic or crazy as some other eateries around town.
