The Stone Hut ends Hoboken run

The Stone Hut calls it quits in Hoboken, NJ

The Stone Hut located at 1028 Washington Street has announced their closing just a year and a half after opening:

“We will be closing at the end of November. Everything is 25% off except Trollbeads and Lighting. The display cases are all also for sale. Thanks to everyone for supporting us! We hope to see you at our store in Long Branch, NJ.”

Wonder why they didn’t hang on for the December holiday shopping month at least… Was rent vs. sales that bad?

The Stone Hut Now Open

5/15/2011 Update:

The Stone Hut is open at 1028 Washington Street in Hoboken, NJ.

The Stone Hut to open in Hoboken on May 14, 2011

A quick update for The Stone Hut over at 1028 Washington Street.

The big day is Saturday, May 14th – and they’ll have hors d’oeuvres & wine for customers to enjoy while they save 20% for the Grand Opening (except Trollbeads products).

1028 Washington St. to become The Stone Hut

PM EDIT: Found out the store is called “The Stone Hut,” and will feature Sterling Silver Jewelry, semi-precious stones, native American jewelry, “Unique Home Accents,” and Trollbead Jewelry.

Sounds very similar to that doomed Santa Fe Touch Jewelry Store that had a short stint at 14th & Bloomfield – but with a better location, and some recognized brands. Maybe if the price-point is right, they can do well in Hoboken!

They’re also having a 20% off Grand Opening Special when they open in May. Will announce that they day before they unlock the doors.

Original Entry:
Found out that the empty spot that Rubee’s Closet used to fill at 1028 Washington Street will become some kind of Jewelry Store.

Haven’t gotten all the details yet, but apparently the proprietor has another store down in South Jersey somewhere, and specializes in “Silver” products that start around $30 bucks and up. Other tchotchkes like gifts and decorative items will supposedly be sold as well. No word on the expected opening date, but it shouldn’t be too complicated.

Do you think that kind of business is needed in Hoboken? If not, what would be more welcome here?

I’m very excited for this store to open. I’ve been to the Long Branch location and they have beautiful things. Will be a great addition to Washington street!

I visit that store every time I go to see my parents down the shore. They have awesome jewelry. I always buy a very unique piece of jewelry. I’m very excited that they are coming to Hoboken.

Sounds like an interesting store. I wish them well. I never heard of Trollbeads. I just went to the website. I like the style. I think the only jewelry store uptown is Vicki’s. We could use another one. I remember Santa Fe Touch. I felt so bad for them when they closed. They had so much stock when they closed. It looked like very expensive stock. I hope they didn’t take too much of a loss. I hope they were able to open somewhere else and do better or I hope they were somehow able to sell their remaining stock. It seems that whatever goes in that 14th&Bloomfield location fails. The only place that did well there was Beethoven’s Veranda.
