Reader Mail: Snow Removal
Here’s a letter about a topic that seems to come up year after year. The responsibility of property owners in Hoboken, and how well they care for the sidewalks thousands of pedestrians traverse each time it snows. I for one, pay much more attention to the various sidewalk material and how it’s shoveled. Surfaces such as slate get extremely slippery and have taken a few spills here in town during the last decade.
After last week’s snow fall, I found the conversation with other Hoboken residents the same as every year…
Does Hoboken have a city ordinance on snow removal and if so, who enforces it? Who’s responsibility is it to clear sidewalks and other pedestrian locations, i.e.
bus stops and crosswalks at intersections?
Walking to the PATH train everyday and back home in the evenings, I found myself and others walking in ridiculous patterns to avoid slipping on the unremoved snow that had remained on the sidewalk since the morning walk to work. Jumping over mounds of snow that had frozen at crosswalks was nothing new either.
Hopefully someone will know the answers to these problems the residents of Hoboken face every time in snows.
Bonus question: Where is that picture?
