11th Annual HOHA Snowball

From the Hoboken Harriers:

The HOboken HArriers Running Club is pleased to announce that the 11th Annual HOHA Snowball is coming soon, Saturday February 24th, from 7PM to 11:30PM at the Elk’s Club (10th and Washington Streets). Advance ticket sales are available in Hoboken at Fleet Feet (604 Washington St.) and Hoboken Golf (125 Grand St.). Buying in advance also helps us anticipate the number of meals to serve, and it saves you a couple bucks.

This year we are pleased to announce that our headliner band will again be “At It Again” which performed to an enthusiastic audience last year. Cuban food will once again be provided by La Isla restaurant in Hoboken. Pass the word!

A sumptuous meal, a free drink (cash bar thereafter), and great live music is all for only $18, if you buy your ticket in advance ($20 at the door). And all net proceeds go to two worthy local charities, the Jubilee Family Life Center and United Cerebral Palsy of Hudson County.

See pictures from last year’s Snowball here.

It may surprise you BadFrank that I was at the very first SB 11 years ago. And the one after that, etc.

And I was kidding about the Mile Square peeps, yo.

Don’t make me challenge you. That ‘Sclade ain’t rollin’ nowhere when we’re done with it. (Was that intimidating sounding? Probably not. Are runners mean? Do thay even have street cred or shout out capabilities? I just do not know.)

I must admit I am curious to see how mean can a runners’ rumble be? At worst they will hit you with a sneaker or some such nonesense. Not that I want someone to start a fight and make the cops run around and get all tired and such and so forth. JeniGump is right, that would be funny.

Anyway, just go, make some new friends and have some fun. And stop complaining.

Everything is good until members of that that rival street gang…er…running club (Mile Square) pull up in a pimped out ‘Sclade looking to “bust heads.”

Last year, violence was prevented only via high-level talks between running club leaders. But since now former HOHA president Brooks (the dawg) moved out west, all current negotiations now rely on humans. I understand it isn’t going well.

But whatever happens, hilarity should ensue. Running club rumble? Yeah, I’d pay to see THAT.

You’ll be embarrassed by everything you get for your 18 bucks: a great dinner, included drink, live band.

You’ll feel even better when you realize that since nearly everything is donated to the event, just about all of the scratch is going to the charity…

Plan to attend and bring everyone you know…

And yes – I also run with the club and have attended the event about the last seven years.
Bad Brains are a once-in-a-lifetime event. Much like first birthdays, losing your virginity, or Potatochip saying anything reasonably intelligent. A Hoboken Bad Brains would be great, but I’d settle for just a few great local bands vs. the standard bar cover band.
Come on dude, you mean to say that all these repetitive, incredible renditions of Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance and Sugar Ray songs do nothing for you? Some good talent that came out of Hoboken that you may not have heard of. Some of it is dated. BlesTeNation – Danny Kilmer(aka Various) grew up on Bloomfield street and is the great grandson of Joyce Kilmer. They just released an album. His brother Mike was in Sweet Lizard Illtet and is now in a bnad called Mad Happy. http://www.myspace.com/blestenation Sexpod – My Sister was the bass player. They kicked some ass. http://tinyurl.com/2cnzju Sweet Lizard Illtet – Good friends of mine – they were signed to Warner Bros. Boo plays in the Demolition String Band now. http://tinyurl.com/yo8wpe http://demolitionstringband.com/ Attacker – These guys just got back together a couple of years ago and are still bangin’. A couple of the guys are BnR in Hoboken. http://www.attacker.tv/ Gothic Slam – My old band.(Anyone laughs I’ll have FAP cut ya, it was the 80’s) http://tinyurl.com/2ggfup The Bongos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bongos Pegasus – No links, but Hoboken legends in the 80’s. There are some I left out but I don’t want to make this too long winded. Some good talent out of our little city.… Read more »
