Hoboken police and fire blotter: 1/25/2011
Hoboken crime and fire action: January 25, 2011
An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Tuesday, January 25, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.
- 8:20pm: More trucks behaving badly
Simple call about a tractor trailer “hung up” at 8th and Hudson Streets. How do these buggers weasel their way onto the narrow streets of Hoboken? - 7:00pm: Suspicious Cablevision Impersonator
Several callers reported a black man going “door-to-door” also uptown in the 12th & Washington Street area. He was apparently impersonating a Cablevision employee, and when confronted, left the scene. Perhaps the same actor as the earlier burglary? - 5:45pm: Welcome home – to a burglarized apartment
A resident living at 60 12th Street phoned police to report that her home had been burglarized while she was out. Bummer! - 5:25pm: Bus vs. Car
Minor accident involving a NJ Transit Bus and a regular car at 9th and Washington. No injuries reported. - 5:20pm: Shoprite Shoplifter
Have noticed an upward trend for shoplifting at Shoprite. Imagine when food prices really start hitting the roof? Whoa Nelly. - 3:10pm: Broken sprinkler at Stevens
The water pipe hits keep on rolling in Hoboken. This time at Stevens Institute – 519 Hudson Street (the Carnegie Laboratory). The broken pipe was leaking water in a stairwell. HFD on scene fixing the problem by capping the sprinkler head. Joy. - 2:15pm: Frequent Pipe Burst Plan now in effect
Must be something about the air or water quality in this rinky dink town. ANOTHER broken pipe causing flooding. This time at the Jarvis Convenience store at 532 Washington Street. - 1:15pm: More pipes-a-bursting
809 Castle Point Terrace – some kind of water pipe or sprinkler burst – flooding the building. HFD responded – and is controlling the situation. Cold weather’s a bitch, ain’t it? - 7:30am: “Man Down”
Reports of a “man down” near 5th and Washington. Not sure if it’s a slippery condition or other incident (drunk homeless, elderly, etc.) - 2:50am: Blimpie Gets Soaked
HFD was dispatched to Blimpie (110 Washington) for fire alarms activated. Upon arrival, they said a broken sprinkler head was squirting water all over the place. After further investigation, that initial prognosis is in doubt, and they’re checking if this may be a leak from an apartment above the store. Whether this affects your lunch plans tomorrow remains to be seen. I didn’t update the blotter yesterday – but there were many calls due to water leaks and other related cold-weather issues. Damn pipes!
More updates to come…
“Rinky dink town”. 😆
Yeah, since we’re kinda sinking, I figure it’s a good time to start discussing relocation options and stuff. I don’t swim very well.
Oh my God!!! The Teredos, ship worms are now damaging the water mains!!!
If you have a 2nd tub, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep it filled with fresh water and invest in a siphon. Sh*t’s bursting left and right!
haven’t you heard? It’s the Apocalypse!
If you have a 2nd tub, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep it filled with fresh water and invest in a siphon. Sh*t’s bursting left and right!
