Hoboken crime and fire action: January 19, 2011

Some afternoon incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Wednesday, January 19, 2011. This post may updated and “bumped” periodically.

  • 11:58pm: Transformer Explosions Galore!
Several power transformers just exploded in various parts of town… near 11th and Madison – and even downtown on Hudson Street. Imagine what Hoboken will be like when (IF) they build even more buildings? Yikes!
  • 5:55pm: Corner Crash
Near the intersection of 9th and Madison – a tractor trailer struck a parked car. The hits keep coming in Hoboken.
  • 4:00pm: Another False Alarm
At 915 Madison Street, construction workers accidentally set off a fire alarm – and required that an entire squadron of trucks to be dispatched. There has to be a better way, no? Does Hoboken even need these central alarms?
  • 3:45pm: Wire down – no big deal
Residents were alarmed by a “down wire” on 5th Street between Garden & Park. HPD investigates, turned out only to be a phone wire. Who uses landline phones anymore?
  • 3:30pm: Parking Utility Vehicle Accident
Hoboken Parking Utility car with license plate MG75111 crashed into another NJ vehicle with license plate number ZFR-38P. Guess Transportation Czar Ian Sacs is (literally) driving everyone mad over there.

More updates to come…

Um, so I just scared the crap out of myself after googling “transformer explosion”… to see what it’s like. Here’s what I found (no need to thank me):

Transformer explosions? Holy shite!

Our lights flickered. And that’s it, thank goodness.

We saw and heard the explosion, looked like fireworks in the sky, very bright. But we didn’t lose power.
