Multiple alarm fire 417 Jackson St

3:27pm. Smoke is reported to be coming out of the building at 417 Jackson St. again. What happened to the fire watch?
As many of you may have known, there was a big four alarm fire today on Jackson Street between 4th and 5th Streets. Many residents unfortunately displaced for the start of the new year.

Fire continues to flare up in the rear basement area. Almost six hours they’ve been working on this!
This fire won’t die. 45 minutes ago it was thought to be out, and now showing flames again out the first floor.
Fire has officially been declared “under control.”
A couple HFD personnel were taken to various hospitals for minor injuries. A few others are suffering but refused treatment. Fires still popping up. Roof is currently unstable.

It’s been reported that the “primary fire” is now extinguished, and they’re just chasing smaller remaining pockets.
One Jersey City firefighter was injured and taken to the JCMC hospital.
PSE&G has indicated they’ve turned off the power in four buildings.
Channel 12 news, along with “many other news agencies” with cameras and other gear have been told leave the scene as they may be interfering with fire personnel. This is obviously turning into a bigger story.

This has now turned into a four-alarm fire, and has possibly spread to another building.
Near or at the Iglesia Damasco Pentecostal. Some fire in the basement in the rear of the building. Jersey city and two other Hoboken companies on scene or en route. A south side interior wall was reported to have collapsed. North Hudson and Jersey City have also helped by re-routing some of their trucks to Hoboken stations just in case they’re needed elsewhere.
It’s classified as a “4 story frame plus one story church next door”.
Fire is now successfully out. Update: Apparently still heavy smoke conditions as of 12:14pm. Anyone in the area that may have witnessed and snapped photo, please send it in.
So far, reader “hot foot” was able to send some pics in. He lives right behind the building. More pics below.
