60 Second Review: Masina Italian (Weehawken)
[Continuing the ORIGINAL Hoboken411 “60 Second Review” series…]
Room Service Italian available up the road
Many Hoboken residents who own a car knew about the old Harbor Bar Restaurant that was part of the Sheraton Hotel in Weehawken, NJ. Hoboken411 did a review of the mediocre place a few years ago. Well, they changed the name and the menu – but the owners, and the level of quality has remained the same. (Note that this “restaurant” doubles as the room service kitchen for this hotel.)
Masina Italian summed up:
Besides the warm-weather outdoor seating, and NYC Skyline View – not much else can be said about the average waterfront eatery, other than it’s just that: average.
- We arrived an hour or so before closing – and were sort “rushed” through dinner. Ambiance otherwise pedestrian.
- Appetizers: Fried Mozz, Calamari – had peculiar taste & smell. First thought: Old frying oil.
- Entrees: Pasta (Ravioli of the Day Broccoli Rabe) – a little bland, but otherwise OK; New York Strip – Actually pretty good, the best item of the night.
Definitely not a place that will be a top-tier choice for dinner.
Hoboken411 Note: However, they do serve breakfast seven days a week starting at 7am (Belgian Waffles, eggs, etc.) So it may not be a bad alternative to other uptown Hoboken places that might get crowded. They also have a menu just for kids – so parents might want to make a note of that (easy parking too!) See original Masina Entry here on 411 for full menus for viewing.
