Mike Doughty at Maxwells 7/30

Former Soul Coughing lead singer headlines Maxwells

Hoboken’s own Dave Calamoneri also on tap…

Many of you will remember the band Soul Coughing from back in the mid/late 90’s with songs like “Super Bon Bon” (1996) and “Circles” (1998).

Well, it’s been 10 years since the band broke up – and Soul Coughing lead singer Mike Doughty went on to a solo career, releasing three albums under Dave Matthews record label ATO Records.

He’s performing this Friday night, 7/30/2010 at Maxwell’s (11th and Washington).

Opening up is Hoboken resident (and city employee) Dave Calamoneri – who happens to be one fantastic musician!

Show starts at 7:30pm and tickets are $20 bucks.

Hear a sample of one of Doughty’s more recent songs called “27 Jennifers:”

“27 Jennifers,” the single, is based on a solid rock riff and features John Kirby’s sparkling keyboard work. “When I went to high school everyone was named Jennifer, Michelle or Heather,” Doughty explains. “This is a salute to them. I love the breakdown that leads to John’s psychotic Van Halen-esque keyboard solo.”

Enjoy the show if you go!

Loved Soul Coughing. I was listening to How Many Cans on the way in to work today, too.

Doughty’s solo stuff is good. Not the same, not quite as groundbreaking. I have seen him at Maxwell’s before; he puts on a good show.
