Planned PSE&G Power Outage coming
8/6/2010 Update:
More planned PSE&G power outages coming
Most residents in the affected areas already know (via letters taped to your doors) that PSE&G has scheduled system “upgrades” for this weekend that will involve planned power outages.
In case you’re out of town, blind or busy on your iPhone or Droid – the upgrades and planned outages are scheduled for Saturday, August 7, 2010 between 7am – 10am (Rain date: Sunday August 8, 2010 same time).
The following areas will be affected:
- Between Bloomfield and Washington – (3rd to 5th) and (6th to 7th streets)
- Between Bloomfield and Grand – (5th to 7th streets)
- 6th Street – (Adams to Jeff), (Willow to Park) and Washington Street
- Between Adams and Grand – (6th to 7th Streets)
If you require additional information, please contact PSE&G at 800-436-PSEG (7734). You’ll receive the same info. The last planned power outage (after the jump) was seamless. Except for the unplanned power outage later in the week.
7/9/2010:
Electric line changeover to shut power down
Some Hoboken residents got fair warning from PSE&G today, that a planned power outage either Sunday July 18th or 25th from 7am to 10am will take place. They said major improvements to the supply lines are the reason the power will be temporarily shut off. Not sure if this just affects all of Hoboken, or just parts. Also, “inclement weather” normally means rain, not a heat wave.
Did you get this note?
So THAT’S what a PSEandG notice looks like.
I had a bizarre notice taped to my door today. Very basic, with large bold black letters on white, one that anyone can pull outta their @ss and tape up to a door. No logo. No name. No identifying information. Just a phone number:
(908) 931-3440
Needless to say, it raised my speculation. However, unfortunately, I found the notice well after 4:00 PM.
But I called the number, and it’s to a random voice mailbox. Also Googled it, and all I could find out was that the number is to a landline based in Cranford, NJ…
Bizarre.
You would think by now City Hall would get a reverse-911 system going in town for this kind of stuff and for water-main breaks.
Four questions: 1. Will I have to pay for the time that this “planned” power outage occurs? 2. Am I going to be compensated for the food that spoils in my fridge? 3. What am I going to tell my security company? 4. Why are these fools doing this (my power has never gone off)? Thanks PSE&G! It’s not enough that my bills are over $200.00 a month! Now this. KMA folks!
No you won’t have to pay during the time of the outage since your electricity bill is based on consumption and obviously you wouldn’t be using any electricity when it’s turned off.

Did you plan on leaving your freezer and fridge open while the power is out? If not, your food should be good for the 3 hours they say they needed to accomplish this task.[quote comment=”194472″]Four questions: 1. We have a notification posted to the front door of our building (11th bet. Bloomfield & Washington). Hopefully, it will prevent more outages in the future….It sucks to lose my little fan action when trying to keep cool. 🙄
I left a message with PSE&G – trying to find out whether this is a partial shutdown, or citywide. I’m wondering if this has to do with the two late night outages along Hudson, Castle Point, and other areas late last week.
Was there a notice on your building Margaret?
