Peter Cunningham’s latest tirade
More Hoboken411 Political Analysis: Peter Cunningham
Peter Cunningham’s temper got the best of him during the election of Democratic party committee seats this week.
Cunningham is a lifelong Republican who switched parties for political convenience and influence.
At least he’s an equal opportunity political turncoat.
As a Republican running for council he told Democrats he voted for John Kerry for President, but as a Democrat running for committeeman he also let it slip that he voted for Republican Chris Christie for Governor. That got some lifelong Democrats peeved, so they mounted a campaign to write in the name of the committeeman Cunningham was seeking to replace:
How did Cunningham react to the audacity of those who thought a lifelong Republican shouldn’t be elected to the Democratic committee? Well, the same guy who infamously said the only reason anyone would dream of running against Dawn Zimmer for Mayor would be for “their ego” got mad and hit the “send” button.
“It has been brought to our attention that the standard bearers of corrupt Hoboken politics are trying to mount a “write in” campaign against our democratic colleagues in Column B. This is their last stand, and as thought, they will not go quietly. Many absentee ballot applications have been submitted to the County to support their candidates in various Districts and they will be pulling out the vote all day today.
They are NOT wanted and there’s NO place for them in Hoboken politics anymore. It is most critical that you find the time to cast your vote (at the very least Democratic Committee) for candidates under Column B.”– Peter Cunningham
Not very democratic of this newly minted Democrat. The reaction was swift. Not only had Peter Cunningham pronounced anyone who dared to run against the Zimmer-aligned candidates for committee, he called them corrupt and said there is no place for them in Hoboken. Kinda sounds like he wants to grind the opposition into powder, doesn’t it?
Cunningham manages to anger many
Who dared to run against Zimmer’s HCDO line and therefore, according to Cunninham, is corrupt? Well, there’s Ricky Mason and Gretchen Brigden, Ines Garcia-Keim and Jason Maurer, and the list goes on and on. Real Democrats who sought to support their national party in a local volunteer position. Cunningham sounds more like his fellow Republcan (at the time) George W. Bush who said to the world, “You’re either with us, or against us.” In Cunningham’s Hoboken, you’re either with Zimmer, or you’re part of Al Qaida and must be run out of his own little Fifth Ward Fallujah.
Democratic Committeeman John Castellano won his seat on Tuesday without Zimmer’s blessing, and offers his view of the divisive situation in this letter.
Opposition may be mounting in the 5th ward
Cunningham has long been known as someone who has no interest in suffering through people who have a different view of things. One-on-one he’ll yes them to death and hope they forget the conversation. The problem for Cunningham today is they aren’t forgetting, and nearly three years into his tenure he’s losing influence in his own ward. The loss of 5th ward allies Ann Graham, Brian Assadourian, Ann Marie Bonner and Sandra Reinardy on Tuesday sent a message that Cunningham’s opposition is motivated.
And just for laughs, here’s another shot of Cunningham’s often illegally parked SUV:
